The historic venue, long celebrated for its eclectic mix of Asian street food and buzzing atmosphere, will soon be transformed and revitalised by a new tenant, marking an exciting new chapter for this much-loved site.

The leasing signals a major step forward in bringing renewed energy and community life back to one of Fremantle’s most character-filled precincts.

Located adjacent to the Fremantle Markets and within walking distance of the Cappuccino Strip, the Old Shanghai building is housed in the heritage Piercy Building, which dates back to 1897. With its rich architectural character and cultural legacy, the space has long held a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike.

The new operators, whose full concept will be unveiled in the coming months, are planning a dynamic food and culture hub that honours the building’s past while introducing fresh flavours, modern design, and a renewed focus on community engagement.

“I am thrilled to see this iconic location leased once again,” said Victor Aloi.

“There’s a strong sense of nostalgia attached to this site, but also a lot of excitement about what’s next. The new tenants bring with them a vision that aligns beautifully with Fremantle’s creative, diverse, and inclusive spirit.”

Renovations will commence immediately, with a grand reopening anticipated later in 2025.

Locals and visitors can look forward to a reimagined experience that celebrates the rich history of the site while injecting new life into the heart of Fremantle.
