Hundreds of salespeople, property managers, and administrators from across the country joined RWC for their annual symposiums held in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane this month.
Attendees received an update from RWC head James Linacre.
“I want to acknowledge the huge amount of momentum we carried from 2024 into 2025,” Mr Linacre said.
“We’re on track to have the best year in the history of our group.
“2025 is a year full of potential and opportunity and we aim to deliver better outcomes than ever before.
“We are excited and energised and ready for our best year yet.”
He said January had been a record month for RWC, at a time of year which is usually a more quiet time in commercial real estate.
“2025 has been a breakout year so far, adding to success from the second half of last year, with transaction value up 28.78 per cent so far this financial year,” he said.
“To come into January with that sort of momentum is fantastic and a testament to everyone in the room.”
Mr Linacre said there would be plenty of opportunities and challenges in the commercial property market in 2025.
“Most of those opportunities and challenges lie in the large number of stock coming on the market,” he said.
“However, with the good news out of the OCR announcement earlier this week, I do think we will see transaction numbers rise.”
They also heard from keynote speaker Wizel Property Group CEO Mark Wizel who spoke about how to be a better sales agent, as well as providing insights into the commercial property market.
Mr Wizel started his property journo in 2007 at 21 years old, right before the GFC hit. But by 2017 he was writing more than $7 million a year.
“I just wanted it more than the next person and my actions mirrored that,” Mr Wizel said.
“There was never a grand plan or a big goal, I just tried to list properties and sell them, it was as simple as that.
“It needs to be very simplistic, just list and sell property. When you can do that really well, everything else gets better.”
Mr Wizel said it was important to meet with anyone you can and do anything you can to make progress.
“Progress might be different for everyone in this room, but it doesn’t mean it’s any more or less important,” he said.
“It doesn’t have to be this huge milestone, just keep moving forward.”
Mr Wizel said when you’re working in commercial property all you have is your name and your reputation. He said agents needed to ask themselves “what is your brand, what is your story?”
“You’re selling a product, a service, and a feeling of trust. Clients want to know ‘can this person get the job done?’,” he said.
“You’ve got to defend your name and sometimes that might mean walking away from a deal. Everything you do can impact your brand.
“Every time you interact with someone is an opportunity to push your brand. I can’t count the number of times I’ve signed a text message as ‘Mark Wizel’.
“All vendors want is to get the best price, and they just want to work with someone who can get them the best price. If they’re seeing and hearing ‘Mark Wizel’ everywhere, you’ll be in their head.”
Mr Wizel said when building your brand you have to work for it.
“There’s no short cut,” he said.
“If you’re just in it for the sale you’ll never create a dominant brand.
“Can you be comfortable knowing you haven't worked hard enough for a client who backed you? A client who trusted you to get the job done and you haven't been able to deliver?”
“It’s the foundations carry your brand through.”
Mr Wizel said your purpose is really important.
"You need to have clarity around your purpose," he said.
"I worked really hard on that purpose piece, and it helps me dig a lot deeper when things are going badly.
"It's not how you feel, it's what you do. Action is king.
"But to have action you need motivation and to have motivation you need purpose.”
RWC Western Sydney operations manager Hannah Carney (pictured above) said she really enjoyed the event.
“Symposium 2025 was fantastic!” she said.
“Hearing Mark Wizel speak candidly about his career was truly powerful—a timely reminder that what you put in is what you get out.”
RWC Glen Waverley director Ryan Trickey (pictured above left with RWC Diston Asset Services director Brett Diston) said the symposium was a great way to kick off the year.
“With the growth of the Victorian network continuing to increase, it was so great to catch up with our peers and share some market insights as we move into what we all agree is a really exciting year in 2025,” he said.
